4. Bingo Etiquette

Bingo etiquette is manners and social expectations of each of us as we play bingo. While individual bingo local rule sheets might not print that one is to refrain from acting out loudly during game play, or maybe talking on the phone, it is an expectation that the majority understand. It is important to be aware that not all players are on a level playing field. Some players may have hearing difficulties, others may have issues focusing, of which could be at a greater disadvantage by the actions of the inconsiderate. Below are a few etiquette examples.

Put your phone ringer on silence.

No one wants thier focus interrupted by an inconsiderate phone that is ringing. It can make it difficult to hear the bingo caller for those with out a clear look at a monitor, and labels that person as someone who doesn't respect the other players.

Be respectful of space.

Many bingo players like their space, and if you crowd them they may come across as being rude, and or nasty. Keep this in mind when looking for a place to sit. Click on the camera for a picture of how close seating typically is.

Respect diversity.

News flash! All people like money, and this includes people who will be very diverse from one another. Most people rarely leave their own social circles, and few activities bring together a wide diverse population like bingo. If one player has a great age difference from you, or looks or sounds different, be respectful of their right to enjoy the game.

Food rules.

This etiquette applies to the establishment rules. Some Bingo places allow players to bring their own food, while other will provide food for sale. Generally a few snacks, coffee and water are available as a courtesy, at no charge. However, before you stock up at Subway, Round Table or Costco, you might want to see if the establishment will allow you to bring in your own food. Some places will tell you to put it in the car and not bring it again. This can cause unnecessary tension between players and establishment. I would say 75% or more of all establishments allow players to bring their own food. Ask to avoid any problems.

Now that you know the general etiquette relating to Bingo, move on to the next class.
